Storm in a teacup? Germany’s proposal to tighten up telemedicine cannabis rules

This summer, a draft bill that aims to tighten restrictions on the remote prescribing of medical cannabis upset the German medical cannabis community.

The proposal foresees stricter controls on prescribing medical cannabis through a ban on the dispensing of cannabis for medical purposes via mail-order services offered by pharmacies, and mandatory in-person appointments with a physician for initial prescriptions. It primarily targets providers of telemedicine services, which have become a key access point for medical cannabis in Germany in recent years.
