Texas Republican governor Greg Abbott will call legislators in for a special July session after his surprise veto of a Republican bill that would have effectively eliminated the largest cannabinoid market in the US.
He said further immediate legislative action was necessary to address what he described as the prospect of “dangerous” cannabinoid products continuing to being sold on the market – the issue the bill was meant to address. However, Abbott vetoed the bill that would have prohibited any cannabinoid other than CBD or cannabigerol (CBG) being in a consumable product due to fears the legislation would not have been able to withstand future legal challenges. This leaves the regulation of the hemp market mired in court wrangling for the foreseeable future.
